Krumbach, a scenic Austrian town with a population of 1,000, came up with a clever idea last year to try to put itself on the tourism map. The village’s nascent cultural organization approached seven international architects with an unusual proposition: design a bus stop for us and we’ll give you a free vacation in Krumbach.
They all said “Yes”!
In the summer of 2013 all the designs have been submitted and construction began.
The result are just brilliant as you can see..
1. Sou Fujimoto – Less functional stop but amazing design
2. Wang Shu- The shelter’s “lens”-like opening focuses the gaze on faraway scenery.
3. Alexander Brodsky – This high station will help you know in advance when the bus is arriving
4. Smiljan Radic — Glass covered with a playful birds house (Its not CCTV..) at the top.
5. Ensamble Studio — Wood plunks creating this woodpile like structure
6. Architecten De Vylder Vinck Taillieu — This structure based on the triangulated shape of the roads around
7.Rintala Eggertsson Architects — While waiting for the bus, you can enjoy a game of tennis…
